14 Days in Peru
In August 2023, I traveled abroad for the first time since I was three years old. I flew over to Peru to spend two weeks in the country’s capital of Cusco, where I volunteered on a conservation project.
The goal: preserve an endangered site that dates to the Inca civilisation and get it registered as a heritage site. Simple!
However, the book I am writing is not just about me documenting these two weeks spent preserving a decaying site. It’s also about the wonderful experiences that me and my fellow volunteers had as we explored our surroundings and immersed ourselves in the country’s culture.
From meeting locals to teaching English for the day, to struggling with illness and finding my way back home, the book is an exploration of what it is like to travel to a new country on your own and how life-changing it can be to meet other people from other walks of life.
At the same time, the book also explores what can happen when things do not always go as planned and how resilience and perseverance can help us tackle these situations when times get challenging.
That being said, the book is not just a memoir - it is also a part-travel-slash-history book as well!
Hence I will be taking readers through the rise of the Incan Empire and the Spanish Conquest, all the way through the multitude of events and developments that have helped to shape the country that we see today.
I also hope to tell readers and budding-travellers about what they need to know when travelling to Peru for the first time. Things that I learnt during my trip and things that I wish I knew beforehand - social etiquette, places to visit, food to try (guinea pig among them!), activities to have a go at. There is plenty to do both in and outside of Cusco!
Ultimately, I hope to engage readers not just with my own personal story but also with lots of interesting history and travel tips that complement it nicely, all wrapped up into what I hope will turn out to be a fun and rewarding read!
When is the release date?
At the moment, I currently have no release date for 14 Days in Peru as it is still in early stages of development.
However, I do regularly post about my progress on my blog which you can access here!
You can also stay up-to-date on my Instagram where you will be notified of any new posts and what I have lined up for the upcoming weeks.
In the mean time, do keep an eye on this space as there are lots of exciting developments coming soon and I can’t wait to finish and share my book with you all!
